Natural fine hairs and synthetic alternatives for brush manufacturing
Natural fine hairs and synthetic alternatives for brush manufacturing, selected according to the application, required quality level and the softness, elasticity, fineness and performance required in the finished product.
A.S.&C. supplies different types of natural fine hairs, selected according to the application and the specific requirements of the manufacturer.
Alongside natural materials, fine synthetic filaments are also available for professional applications in artist brushes, cosmetic brushes and shaving brushes, including as alternatives to certain natural fibres.
Different materials for different requirements
Natural fine hairs have specific characteristics determined by fibre structure, fineness, elasticity and softness. The choice of material depends on the type of brush and the performance required during use.
The evolution of synthetic filaments now makes it possible to complement traditional materials with extremely fine fibres designed to provide specific characteristics of softness, elasticity, resilience and tip geometry.
A.S.&C. can therefore offer both natural fine hairs and synthetic alternatives, helping manufacturers identify the most suitable solution for the characteristics required in the finished brush.
Fine synthetic filaments
Artist Brushes
Fine synthetic filaments can be used as an alternative to, or in combination with, natural hairs to achieve different levels of softness, elasticity, precision and paint control.
Cosmetic Brushes
Fine, soft synthetic fibres make it possible to develop cosmetic brushes with different characteristics according to the product being applied and the desired result.
Shaving Brushes
Specific fine synthetic filaments can be used as an alternative to natural hair, including badger hair, providing different levels of softness, elasticity and performance during use.
A.S.&C. supplies fine synthetic filaments developed for professional applications in artist brushes, cosmetic brushes and shaving brushes. Different diameters, geometries and fibre characteristics make it possible to identify the most suitable solution for the required performance.
Main types of fine natural hairs
Badger
A particularly important material in the manufacture of shaving brushes. Different selections vary in fineness, tip softness, elasticity, colour and hair uniformity.
Goat
A versatile natural hair valued for its softness and elasticity, used mainly in cosmetic brushes and other professional applications.
Pony
A natural hair used in different types of brushes, particularly where a balance of softness, elasticity and loading capacity is required.
Ox Ear Hair
A natural hair characterised by good elasticity and strength, used in brushes for applications requiring control and fibre consistency.
Squirrel
A particularly fine and soft natural hair, used where delicacy, loading capacity and even product distribution are required.
Weasel
A fine natural hair used in professional brushes requiring precision, elasticity and high-quality tips.
Kolinsky
A premium natural hair particularly valued for artist brushes because of its fine tip, elasticity and paint control.
Raccoon
A natural hair used in specific professional applications, with distinctive characteristics of softness, elasticity and fibre structure.
Badger hair quality and selection
Badger hair has long been one of the most prestigious materials used in the manufacture of shaving brushes. Fibre fineness, tip softness, elasticity, colour and hair uniformity determine the characteristics and value of the different selections.
In the commercial classification used by A.S.&C., badger hair is divided into Grades I, II, III and IV. Within Grade I, Grade I Super represents the highest-quality selection and corresponds to the type commonly known in the industry as Silver or Silvertip.
One of the most evident characteristics of premium selections is the naturally very light tip. The greater the proportion of naturally white, attractive and uniform tips, the higher the commercial value of the material. The finest qualities are rarer, more difficult to source and consequently more expensive.
The value of high-quality badger hair is not purely aesthetic. Its particular hair structure and the natural fineness and softness of the tips make it especially suitable for the manufacture of premium shaving brushes.
An important aspect when evaluating the material is distinguishing a naturally light tip from a colour obtained through chemical bleaching. Bleaching can alter the characteristics of the hair and, when particularly aggressive, can make it more fragile and the tips more susceptible to breakage.
For this reason, A.S.&C. pays particular attention to the sourcing and selection of premium badger hair and, when requested by the customer, to sourcing material with naturally light tips rather than tips obtained through bleaching.
Fine synthetic filaments for shaving brushes
Alongside natural badger hair, the development of fine synthetic filaments has made fibres specifically designed for shaving brush manufacturing available.
These filaments can be engineered to provide very fine, soft tips, together with defined characteristics of elasticity, resilience and fibre support.
They therefore represent a genuine technical alternative to natural badger hair and can be selected according to the performance the manufacturer wishes to achieve in the finished shaving brush.
A.S.&C. can offer both selected natural badger hair and fine synthetic filaments for shaving brushes, allowing manufacturers to evaluate different solutions according to the characteristics and market positioning of the finished product.
