Shaving Brushes
Selected badger hair, bleached natural bristles and fine synthetic filaments for shaving brush manufacturing, from traditional materials to modern synthetic alternatives, selected according to the required performance and quality level of the finished product.
Materials for shaving brushes
Badger Hair
A material traditionally used in premium shaving brushes. Different selections vary in fineness, tip softness, colour, uniformity and elasticity.
Discover badger hair →Bleached Natural Bristles
A traditional natural material for shaving brushes, providing greater support and different performance characteristics compared with badger hair.
Discover our natural bristles →Fine Synthetic Filaments
Very fine synthetic fibres also developed as alternatives to natural hair, offering different characteristics of softness, elasticity and support.
Discover fine synthetic filaments →Badger hair quality makes the difference
Badger hair has long been one of the most prestigious materials used in the manufacture of high-quality shaving brushes. Different selections can vary considerably in fineness, softness, colour, uniformity and elasticity.
In the commercial classification used by A.S.&C., badger hair is divided into Grades I, II, III and IV. The highest-quality selection is Grade I Super, corresponding to the quality commonly known in the industry as Silver or Silvertip.
The finest selections are particularly characterised by naturally very light, attractive and uniform tips. These qualities are rarer, more difficult to source and consequently have a higher commercial value.
Badger Hair Selection
We pay particular attention to sourcing the finest qualities and, when requested by the customer, to selecting badger hair with naturally light tips rather than tips obtained through bleaching.
The choice of fibre determines brush performance
Tip Softness
The fineness and structure of the tip directly influence how the brush feels against the skin during application.
Elasticity and Support
The correct balance between flexibility and support determines the response of the brush knot during lather preparation and application.
Water Management
Different materials interact with water in different ways and contribute to the overall performance of the brush during lather preparation.
Lathering
Fibre diameter, structure, elasticity and density contribute to the brush's ability to work soap or cream and distribute the lather evenly.
Tradition and new technical solutions
Natural badger hair continues to be a benchmark material for premium shaving brushes, particularly in selections characterised by fine, naturally light and uniform tips.
Natural bristles, on the other hand, offer different performance characteristics, with greater support and a fibre structure traditionally valued in specific types of shaving brushes.
At the same time, the development of fine synthetic filaments has made it possible to create fibres specifically designed for shaving applications, providing manufacturers with additional options in brush development.
Fine synthetic filaments for shaving brushes
Modern fine synthetic filaments can be developed with specific characteristics of tip fineness, softness, elasticity and resilience, making it possible to achieve different performance characteristics according to the type of brush being produced.
Some solutions have been developed specifically as alternatives to badger hair, providing very fine, soft tips while maintaining adequate fibre support.
Through collaboration with companies highly specialised in fine synthetic filaments, A.S.&C. can offer specific fibres for shaving brush manufacturing, selected according to the characteristics required by the manufacturer.

A solution for every type of shaving brush
There is no single material suitable for every shaving brush. The choice depends on the product positioning, the desired feel on the skin, the support required from the brush knot and the characteristics the manufacturer wishes to achieve in the finished brush.
A.S.&C. can support manufacturers in evaluating different grades of natural badger hair, natural bristles and fine synthetic filaments, identifying the most suitable material for specific manufacturing requirements.
